At Theme Trust, we’ve just released our first WordPress theme of 2012, and we’re quite proud of it. This one is called Uber, and it’s a responsive business and portfolio theme perfect for freelance designers, photographers, or design firms. The portfolio section in this theme, with its smooth filtering animations, is a great way to showcase your work. Another great feature is the animated full screen background that’s synchronized with the home page slideshow. Keep reading to learn more Uber’s features and to try out the demo.

Headway 3 Now Available | Headway Drag and Drop WordPress Theme
Headway’s always been about working on your design visually. Headway was the first visual drag and drop commercial theme framework for WordPress. The Visual Editor changed the game by letting you design live right on the page. No more “let’s check a bunch of options sight unseen and hope it looks good” like other themes. The Visual Editor is still there, but in Headway 3 we’re introducing a whole new way to create the page layouts: the Headway Layout Grid. The Layout Grid lets you DRAW your website, just by clicking and dragging. You draw a Block (yeah, they’re Blocks now, not “Leafs” anymore—and you’re so welcome!) and then choose what kind of Block you want it to be. If you change your mind you can change the Block type. No need to delete and redraw the Block. Blocks can be dragged around and resized. Each Block has options you can set such as content filters or to give it a custom CSS class.
Today, webfonts abound. You can find them in a number of places: Google Font Directory, Typekit, Fontspring.com, and myriad other sites and font delivery services. A number are even free. And yet, like most things, much of what is free is not useful, and much of what is useful is not free. For example, there are a great deal of handwriting fonts available for @font-face embedding, but I would be hard pressed to think of more than a few instances in which these would be put to use. This article, then, focuses on the top 13 most useful free webfonts for headline use. (via Top 13 Webfonts for Headline Use | webexpedition18)
Thanks to the Internet, marketing has evolved over the years. Consumers no longer rely on billboards and TV spots — a.k.a. outbound marketing — to learn about new products, because the web has empowered them. It’s given them alternative methods for finding, buying and researching brands and products. The new marketing communication — inbound marketing — has become a two-way dialogue, much of which is facilitated by social media. Another reason why inbound marketing is winning is because it costs less than traditional marketing. Why try to buy your way in when consumers aren’t even paying attention? Here are some stats from the infographic below. 44% of direct mail is never opened. That’s a waste of time, postage and paper. 86% of people skip through television commercials. 84% of 25 to 34 year olds have clicked out of a website because of an “irrelevant or intrusive ad.” The cost per lead in outbound marketing is more than for inbound marketing. Inbound marketing focuses on earning, not buying, a person’s attention, which is done through social media and engaging content, such as blogs, podcasts and white papers. This content is interesting, informative and adds value, creating a positive connection in the eyes of the consumer, thus making him more likely to engage your brand and buy the product. So it costs less and has better a ROI. This infographic from Voltier Digital highlights the differences between the two kinds of marketing. Let us know your opinions in the comments below.
Nova is a sharp, simplistic design that makes for an intuitive user experience. Nova’s biggest strength is its homepage, which allows you to organize your content into two areas. The Featured Slider is perhaps the most versatile slider we have built, and comes with multiple slider variations that breath new life into the design. (via Nova WordPress Theme | Elegant Themes)
May the best Wordpress plugins win in | the Battle of the Plugins
Why
The following sentence is directed to everyone involved in the creation of websites: WordPress is awesome.
If you agree, then you probably also know that WordPress is not only awesome because of it’s core system, but also because it can be easily extended with numerous plugins.
Currently over 16 thousand plugins are available in the WordPress repository; in itself an insane number if you think of the amount of hours that were spend in their combined creation. And as someone once stated: ”with this high amount of available plugins comes great confusion”: Which plugin is best for what? How do I know which one is best? Can I trust the internal WordPress rating system?
To solve these problems this website is created.
What
Even though the Battle of the Plugins is a peaceful place for humans and animals, it is not for WordPress plugins. Ohh no. It is here where they fight to survive and to become the best of the best.
In order to survive they will have to be voted on. The plugins with the most votes will automatically be displayed on top and is considered to be the best plugin in a battle.
